Seeing People with Disabilities with God’s Eyes
Seeing people with disabilities through God's eyes means recognizing them as being made in God's image. It involves focusing on their worth as a creation of God instead of human limitations. This perspective allows us to see them as worthy of love and consideration rather than judging them based on what society deems as normal.
God understands the pain of disability and the associated losses, and He grieves with us. He reaches out to individuals with disabilities, seeing and loving them not despite their challenges but through and because of them. The Biblical worldview does not diminish the value of individuals with disabilities; instead, it encourages us to view them through a different lens.
Here are some ways to see people with disabilities with God's eyes:
1. Recognize their gifts: People with disabilities possess unique gifts and perspectives valuable to God.
2. See the person: God values people, not just their achievements.
3. Love them unconditionally: We should do the same as God loves people unconditionally.
4. Learn from Jesus: Jesus’s actions and words exemplify how to love people with disabilities and teach others to do likewise.
5. Avoid stigmatization: People with disabilities often face stigmatization, but we can help change that by seeing them as God sees them.
